Studying Integrative Chinese Medicine
I first began my journey as a nurse and the passion to be a midwife was something that I wanted to finish eventually down the road. I felt like becoming a doula was just one more thing to help me prepare for women’s health and wellness. In May of 2012 I found a wonderful program at Topsail Island, and completed my doula training with Ann Tumblin from DONA International. In 2013 I took my 45 hour CLC training through The Center of Breastfeeding and now currently studying toward my IBCLC Exam. I am a full-time student studying integrative medicine. My interests and long term research studies include: Chinese Medicine, Women's Health and Wellness, Nutrition, Ayurveda and Nurse Midwifery.
Over the years, I have attended many conferences, seminars and workshops to further my education and skills to stay up-to-date on research and trends. I have served clients and patients in several states (VA, FL, GA, and NC), in a large number of different hospitals with different care providers having to be flexible and adaptable to my surrounding work environment. I have served women who had non-medicated labors, as well as labors with inductions, augmentations, epidurals, cesareans and VBACs.
Through my personal pregnancies and wellness studies I’ve encountered several stressors and found myself wanting to be more on my yoga mat. It was last year, in 2014, I committed more days to Yoga and knew the natural therapy I was missing for so long that once kept me centered. In 2015 I completed a 16 hour prenatal and postnatal teacher training at Asheville Yoga Center and later graduated from a 200 Hour Registered Yoga School (RYS) at Embrace Yoga Studios. I am also a doTERRA Wellness Advocate and enjoy teaching Essential Oils in the classroom.
On a different spectrum, I am kind of obsessed with taking pictures and capturing memories. As I have practiced it, photography produces pleasure by simplicity. I see something special and I show it to the camera. A picture is then produced. The moment is held until someone sees it. I see photography more than just a factual medium of communication; I see it as a creative art!
