Know the FACTS about Plastic & Formula!

Going back to work soon? Use glass not plastic! Plastic bottles, even BPA free, studies show that they cause cancer. The problem is that the group of people that is probably most at risk are infants and small children which is precisely the people who will be feeding out of a bottle.  Small children are most at risk because their bodies are growing rapidly.  Rapidly growing cells are always more susceptible to damage from toxins than mature cells that have finished growing.  This is true of any chemical, not just BPA.  BPA alters the way genes are activated in the cells of rats.  These cells, according to scientists, are very similar to human cells.  When these cells are exposed to amounts of BPA that a baby would receive from a plastic bottle they divide quicker and eventually cause cancer.

Moms, Just keep in mind that if you don't plan to pump your breast milk and decide to use formula there are many formulas that are highly sweetened. While most infant formulas do not contain sugar in the form of sucrose, they can contain high levels of other types of sugar such as lactose (milk sugar), fructose (fruit sugar), glucose (also known as dextrose, a simple sugar found in plants) and maltodextrose (malt sugar). Because of a loophole in the law, these can still be advertised as ‘sucrose free’. Formula may also contain unintentional contaminants introduced during the manufacturing process. Some may contain traces of genetically engineered soya and corn. The bacteria Salmonella and aflatoxins potent toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, immunosuppressive agents produced by species of the fungus Aspergillus have regularly been detected in commercial formulas, as has Enterobacter sakazakii, a devastating foodborne pathogen that can cause sepsis (overwhelming bacterial infection in the bloodstream), meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain) and necrotising enterocolitis (severe infection and inflammation of the small intestine and colon) in newborn infants. I Just wanted to clear that up before I'm labeled as the crazy breast lady.  Its obvious that I am very adamant about this topic... LOL

So educate your friends and spread the word about the FACTS!! The formula company's wont! They're all about making money off of you and truly don't care about your babies best interest or development. I mean really, before you make a decion on what everyone else is doing in society. It's important to always do your HW or research or just ask a trained CLC :)
